The Problem Statement

Our client, a multi-location cannabis retail and wholesale provider, faced significant challenges in their sales and marketing data reporting processes. They relied heavily on out-of-the-box reports from their point-of-sale and e-commerce platform, Dutchie, as well as data from other disparate sources which proved to be both inconsistent and limiting. Field names and values varied across reports, creating confusion, increasing manual tasks, and slowing down their analysis. Inconsistent totals led to uncertainty in business decisions. Additionally, there was no consolidated view of performance across stores or agreed upon KPIs, making it difficult to assess overall business health and evaluate the effectiveness of pricing, discounts, and promotions. Furthermore, custom metrics and hierarchies were also required to drive deeper insights into sales, discounts, and profitability.

The Objective

Help our client achieve unified, reliable, and actionable sales and marketing performance reporting with the following goals:

  • Clean and standardize data from multiple Dutchie instances, other systems and various MS Excel sources.
  • Build a single source of truth for sales, pricing, and discount analysis.
  • Develop Power BI dashboards to provide real-time insights into sales, product performance, pricing and profitability, discounting trends, and promotional effectiveness at an overall and location level.
  • Empower leadership with accurate, actionable data to inform pricing, discounting, and marketing strategies.

Data Integration & Standardization

Solvenna tackled the foundational data issues by thoroughly wrangling and validating Dutchie and other data sources. We identified discrepancies in field names and values resolving these inconsistencies. We combined and appended sales data from all locations into a single, unified dataset, enabling seamless multi-store performance analysis.  Eliminating manual steps.

Advanced Power BI Reporting Suite

We developed a robust suite of Power BI dashboards, offering the client real-time insights into key business drivers.  Dashboards included, but not limited to:

  • Location Performance: Visualizing revenue, sales volume, and profitability across all retail locations.
  • Sales Performance: Monitoring overall sales trends and identifying top-performing products and categories.
  • Price/Volume/Mix Analysis: Understanding the impact of pricing changes and product mix on revenue growth.
  • Discounting Analysis: Evaluating discount strategies, including discount performance by category.
